Where is my data stored?

Your data is stored entirely on your own mobile device inside an encrypted SQLite database using SQLCipher. No note text, voice recording, file, or reference link is ever transmitted to a cloud server or external database. You retain 100% control of your physical data.

How can I backup my memory vault?

You can generate a manual backup by going to Profile → Backup & Sync → Export Backup inside the App. This compiles your database and attachments into an encrypted ZIP file. You can save this file locally, copy it to an external drive, or upload it to your own private cloud storage (like Google Drive, OneDrive, or ProtonDrive).

What happens if I forget my Personal Vault PIN?

Because Smritix is an offline-first app, we do not store your vault credentials on any servers. Your PIN is securely hashed locally using PBKDF2. If you forget your PIN, we cannot reset or recover it for you. The only way to regain access to the vault features is to clear the App's data from Android system settings or reinstall the App, which permanently purges the local database. We strongly recommend writing down your PIN in a secure physical location.

Does Smritix share my data with third parties?

No. We do not sell, share, or analyze your personal content. The App integrates Google Firebase solely for anonymous telemetry (stability logs, stack traces during crashes, and generic feature usage counts). No note contents, filenames, or secure vault details are ever included in these reports. You can review the details in our Privacy Policy.

How can I restore my data on a new device?

To move your data to a new phone:

  1. On your old device, export a backup from Profile → Backup & Sync.
  2. Transfer the exported password-protected ZIP file to your new device.
  3. Install Smritix on the new device, go to Profile → Backup & Sync → Import Backup, select the ZIP file, and enter your decryption password.

What permissions does the app require?

Smritix requests only two core permissions:

  • Microphone: To record audio for voice notes. Audio is processed locally.
  • Storage/Files: To select attachment imports (images/documents) and read/write backup files.
