Smritix ("we", "our", "us") values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Smritix mobile application (the "App").

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully to understand our practices regarding your data.

1. Introduction

Smritix is designed as an offline-first personal memory vault and "second brain." Your messages, notes, files, links, categories, and personal vault details are processed and stored locally on your device. We do not provide user account registration, cloud synchronization, or remote storage for your personal data.

2. Information Collection & Privacy Limits

We are committed to absolute user data privacy. The App collects and processes information under the following strict boundaries:

User Content Remains Local

Your personal data belongs exclusively to you and remains on your device. The App never uploads, transmits, or shares the following content with our servers or any third-party services:

  • Your text messages, notes, and context notes.
  • Your saved link URLs.
  • Your voice note recordings and audio files.
  • Your attachments, images, PDFs, or documents.
  • Your personal vault details (e.g., account credentials or custom text entries).
  • Your secure personal vault PIN.

3. Local Device Storage & Data Encryption

To protect your information from unauthorized access, Smritix utilizes:

  • SQLCipher Local Encryption: All app database records (including messages, links, categories, and sections) are encrypted locally using SQLCipher with a 256-bit key derived securely on-device.
  • Secure Personal Vault PIN: Access to your saved personal details is protected by a mandatory, user-defined PIN. The PIN is hashed using a high-iteration PBKDF2 key derivation function and stored securely within the device's hardware-backed secure storage.

4. Third-Party Services

For the sole purpose of monitoring App performance, fixing stability bugs, and understanding feature usage, the App integrates Google Firebase services. These services collect only anonymous telemetry:

A. Firebase Analytics

We collect anonymous usage metrics. We use this data to analyze how features are used and to improve the user experience.

  • Tracked Actions: We log generic event counts when actions are performed, such as opening the App, creating a category, creating a section, saving a voice note, saving a link, or executing a search.
  • Privacy Guard: No message content, note text, URLs, file names, or personal vault details are sent to Firebase.

B. Firebase Crashlytics

We collect anonymous diagnostic logs and stack traces if the App encounters a crash or fatal execution error. This information helps us quickly locate and repair bugs.

  • Tracked Diagnostics: Device model, operating system version, execution state at the time of crash, and native/framework error messages. No user content is contained in crash reports.

5. Device Permissions

To enable core application features, the App requests access to specific device capabilities. We use these permissions only as described below:

  • Microphone Permission: Used exclusively to record audio files when you capture a voice note. The recorded audio is saved locally as an .m4a file on your device and is never uploaded or shared.
  • Storage / File Access: Used to select attachments (images, PDFs, documents) to import into your vault, and to read or write backup files during user-initiated export and restore actions.

We do not request or access any other permissions (such as camera, contacts, or location).

6. Backup and Restore

Smritix provides a backup and restore utility to safeguard your vault:

  • User-Initiated: Backups are only generated when you explicitly select the "Export Backup" feature. We never perform automatic background backups.
  • Password-Protected Zip: Backups are encrypted into a secure ZIP archive using a password that you provide.
  • Local Sharing & Storage: You retain full control over where backups are saved (e.g., local folders, external storage, or your private cloud drive). Smritix does not upload your backups.
  • Restore: Restoring a backup completely replaces the local database with the contents of the imported backup.

7. Data Security

We implement premium security protocols on-device (SQLCipher database encryption and PBKDF2 secure PIN storage) to safeguard your data. However, security is a shared responsibility. You are responsible for securing physical access to your device, choosing strong lock screens, and setting a robust password for database backups.

8. Children's Privacy

Smritix does not collect personal data from anyone, including children. Because all user content remains on the device, we do not knowingly or unknowingly collect or store child-related personal information.

9. User Control & Data Deletion

You retain absolute control over your data:

  • Selective Deletion: You can delete individual messages, sections, or categories within the App at any time.
  • Complete Deletion: You can permanently purge all data and settings by using the standard Android "Clear Data" option in Settings, or by uninstalling the App. Once deleted, this data cannot be recovered.

10. Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our App or compliance requirements. Any revisions will be updated inside the App's Settings and published on our website. Continued use of the App after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
